Breaking Boundaries
Uniting Minds Across Borders and Disciplines
In times like today, with rapidly evolving societal challenges and increasing specialisation within the field, it is more important than ever to connect across disciplines, share perspectives, and collaborate internationally. Under the theme Breaking Boundaries: Uniting Minds Across Borders and Disciplines, this year's congress aims to challenge current boundaries and highlight the importance of collaboration in four key pillars through keynote lectures, lectures, workshops, panel discussions and roundtables.

Four key pillars
1. Collaboration between subdisciplines
Psychology is a broad field connected to many aspects of society and divided into diverse subdisciplines, each with its own focus and methods. Some areas, like neuropsychology and medical psychology, naturally overlap, while others, such as legal and clinical psychology, are more distinct. Despite these differences, they all share the goal of understanding the mind and behaviour and improving human experience. This congress highlights how subdisciplines can collaborate, complement each other, and generate innovative research and solutions that no single field could achieve alone.

2. Interdisciplinary synergy
Psychology does not only collaborate within its own subfields, but is also increasingly working together with other professional domains to address complex societal challenges. Partnerships with medicine improve patient care, collaborations with education enhance learning, and cooperation with technology develops user-friendly tools. Work with law, business, and economics further supports fairer systems and healthier workplaces. This congress demonstrates the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation and how psychological knowledge can create meaningful impact across fields.
3. Pushing the boundaries of psychology
The field of psychology is expanding rapidly, moving beyond traditional research focused on WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialised, Rich, Democratic) populations. Studies increasingly include diverse groups and explore previously overlooked topics, such as the effects of female hormones on mental health, the psychological impact of climate change, and high-performance sports. Research is becoming more transparent, with null results published more often, reducing bias and strengthening reliability. Technological advances, such as wearable devices, further push the boundaries and give rise to new subdisciplines. The congress aims to showcase these developments, inspiring future psychologists to explore, innovate, and expand the limits of the field.
4. Working beyond borders
Finally, the congress breaks borders in the most literal sense. Psychology is shaped by diverse cultural and national perspectives, each offering unique insights. International collaboration allows us to combine strengths, share knowledge, and tackle challenges that no single country can solve alone. Organized jointly by Belgium and the Netherlands, this EFPSA congress brings together participants from across Europe, using cultural diversity to enrich dialogue, challenge assumptions, and foster mutual learning.
Together, we are shaping the future of psychology.
