Baarlo
The 40th EFPSA Congress will take place in the idyllic village of Baarlo, beautifully situated in the heart of Limburg, the Netherlands. Discover more about this charming place here.
Long before it was called Baarlo, people were already living here, archaeological finds suggest habitation since the very beginning of our calendar. The first written record of “Baarlo” dates back to 1219.

The village is beautifully situated on the river Maas, with a ferry crossing every 5–10 minutes to Steyl on the opposite bank. Our venue, Kasteel de Berckt, is one of four castles in Baarlo - hence its nickname “kastelendorp”, which translates to castle village. Not too bad for a title!
Just like our venue, two of the other castles — Kasteel d’Erp and Kasteel de Raay — trace their roots back to the 13th century. The fourth, Kasteel Scheres, was built in the 19th century and later became the home of the Japanese-American artist Shinkichi Tajiri. Even if his name doesn’t immediately ring a bell, you may have seen his work: his sculptures are displayed in several Dutch museums, in Berlin, in Amsterdam, and even nearby in Venlo.

To all our outdoorsy participants: you are in for a treat! From scenic viewpoints to inviting hiking and cycling routes, the surroundings are perfect to explore. In spring, the orchards burst into color with fruit blossoms, while along the way you’ll also come across striking sculptures that make the landscape even more unique.
