Academic Writing: The Art of Communicating Science (by JEPS)
Academic writing is essential for presenting research clearly and contributing to scholarly discussions. This workshop introduces participants to key principles that support precise, well-structured, and reader-oriented scientific texts. Participants will explore practical dos and don’ts of academic writing, including strategies for clarity, coherence, and avoiding common pitfalls. The workshop also addresses bias-free language and highlights how careful wording can strengthen scholarly communication.
A central focus is structuring arguments and ideas. Participants will learn how to present their ideas logically, develop a coherent flow, and ensure each part of a text contributes effectively to the overall argument. The session will also introduce practical tips and tools to support the writing process, from planning and drafting to revising and editing. Short exercises and examples will give participants the opportunity to reflect on their own writing and consider how the strategies presented can be applied in practice. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a clearer understanding of how academic texts are structured and will be equipped with practical tools to approach a variety of writing tasks, including essays, theses, and research papers.
